If I was bit at someone’s apartment, can I recover damages for my injuries?

Yes. If the tenant carries renters insurance, you can make a claim. If the tenant does not have renter’s insurance or the renter’s insurance is insufficient, a claim can be made against the owner and/or landlord for the animal bite injuries.  Under California law, a landlord could be held liable under common law negligence if it can be established that the landlord had actual knowledge that a dog kept by a tenant had a dangerous propensity and had the ability to prevent the harm.
